Dasha defeated the World No. 8 Venus Williams from the USA in the semi-final of the Premier Mandatory tournament in Indian Wells: 4-6 6-4 7-5.
Dasha had a 3-1 lead in the opening set but did not manage to keep it and Williams won four games in a row. Dasha took the ninth game on her opponent’s serve but immediately lost the following service game and the whole set.
Similarly to the opening set, Dasha had another 3-1 lead in the second one and again Williams managed to level it. However, this time she stopped her opponent’s winning streak earlier with a break-point in the seventh game and secured her serve in the eighth. Dasha won another break-point in the tenth game and extended the match to the decisive set.
The American was leading for almost the whole set but Dasha managed to secure her serve being 4-5 down and then won the following two games losing only two points in total. Thus, Dasha reached her first-ever final of the Premier Mandatory tournament. She also grasped the lead in the head-to-head record with Venus Williams (2-1).
Dasha’s last opponent on the way to the trophy is her age-mate from Japan Naomi Osaka (World No. 44 in the WTA ranking). On her way to the final Dasha defeated Katerina Siniakova (World No. 48), Sloane Stephens (World No. 13), Caroline Wozniacki (World No. 2) and Angelique Kerber (World No. 10) whereas Osaka outplayed Maria Sharapova (World No. 41), Agnieszka Radwanska (World No. 32), Sachia Vickery (World No. 100), Maria Sakkari (World No. 58), Karolina Pliskova (World No. 5) and Simona Halep (World No. 1).
