Initially Daria had to begin the Indian-Wells tournament with a first-round match against the American Taylor Townsend, but the withdrawal of Serena Williams caused the rearrangement of the draw. Thus, Dasha became seed No. 33 and was moved to the second round where she played against Kristyna Pliskova from the Czech Republic.
The first match between the players lasted a bit longer than an hour and, unfortunately, Daria lost it 0-6 3-6. Dasha had three break-points on Kristyna’s serve but did not manage to win any of these. She also lost five games on her serve.
As Daria does not take part in the doubles event in Indian-Wells, she leaves the tournament and heads for Miami. There she will play in the second consecutive WTA Premier Mandatory tournament which begins on March 21.
