Dasha got 6-4 0-6 6-4 win over the top seed Angelique Kerber in the second round of Qatar Total Open in Doha (Premier Series). Dasha had a break in the third game of the first set and that was enough for her to take the lead in the match.
Kerber played much better in the second set and did not leave Dasha any chances to win a single game. However, Dasha regained the leadership in the decider, winning 4 games in a row. Kerber managed to close the gap to minimum but that was not enough. Eventually, Dasha converted her superiority into victory.
“It's my second year on the WTA Tour, so I have to grow up. It was a difficult match, especially taking into account all those rain delays. I took a toilet break after 0-6. I simply looked in the mirror and said a couple of words. It really helped” – said Dasha in her on-court interview after the match.
Daria Kasatkina has already defeated the German this year – Kerber, the world No. 1 at that moment, lost to Kasatkina in the second round of Sydney. Later today Dasha will also play her quarterfinal match against Monica Puig from Puerto-Rico.
