The victory over the Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu 6-4 6-1 let Dasha reach her first semi-final on WTA tournaments this year. Kasatkina had spent 1 hour and 12 minutes before sealing the victory over the tenth seed in Charleston.
Both players had a two-game lead in the first set but the important break in the ninth game and confident play in the following game on her own serve helped Dasha win the set. The beginning of the second set was equal 1-1 but then Dasha won five games in a row, securing her victory on the second match-point.
In semi-final Dasha will play against the German Laura Siegemund, No. 37 in WTA ranking. Siegemund has already beaten three top-30 players on her way to the semi-final, including world No. 10 Venus Williams. Kasatkina and Siegemund have played against each other 3 times and Dasha has won all these matches.
