Daria Kasatkina spends three hours to defeat World No. 12 and reach the quarterfinal in Dubai

February 21, 2018

Dasha had a tight three-hour match against the British Johanna Konta and eventually defeated her opponent: 4-6 6-7(6) 6-2.

Konta managed to win a break-point in the seventh game of the opening set and that was enough for her to seal the victory in the first set. Moreover, Dasha had seven opportunities to win a break-point but did not manage to take any of these. Dasha was 1-3 down in the second set but fortunately, she made the score equal and extended the set to the tie-break. Having saved two match-points and being 4-6 down, Dasha recovered herself and won the set. Dasha completely controlled the game in the decisive set. She won three games on Konta’s serve whereas lost only a single service game.

This is Dasha’s second appearance in the quarterfinal of the WTA Premier tournament this year. Her next opponent is the fellow Russian Elena Vesnina who is currently No. 23 in the WTA ranking – one rank before Dasha. Last year Vesnina won their only match.
