Dasha outplayed the American Sloane Stephens in the third round of the WTA Premier Mandatory tournament in Indian Wells: 6-4 6-3.
Dasha won a break-point in the fifth game of the opening set, then secured her own service game and won another break-point, serving for the set in the eighth game. At that very moment, Stephens pulled herself together, won the following two games and almost equalled the score. However, Dasha took her second chance and successfully closed the first set.
Daria won another break-point in the opening game of the second set and saved that advantage until the very end of the game. Moreover, she won the fourth break-point of the match in the ninth game and sealed her victory. The match had lasted for 86 minutes and this is Dasha’s second appearance in the fourth round of Indian Wells.
As for now, Dasha has defeated all the reigning champions of the Grand Slam tournaments. She defeated Caroline Wozniacki in Saint-Petersburg in February, outplayed Jelena Ostapenko at the US Open last year and overcame Garbine Muguruza in Dubai last week.
Dasha’s next opponent on the way to the quarterfinal is the World No. 2 – Caroline Wozniacki from Denmark. The head-to-head score of the players is equal: 1-1.
