Daria Kasatkina advances to her maiden Dubai final

February 23, 2018

Dasha defeated the World No. 3 Garbine Muguruza in the semi-final of the WTA Premier tournament in Dubai: 3-6 7-6(11) 6-1.

The Spaniard won the only break-point of the first set in the sixth game but that was enough for her to take the first set. Muguruza also won another break-point in the seventh game of the second set but Dasha immediately paid her back. Nonetheless, Dasha lost the following game on her serve and the Spaniard was serving for the match having a 5-4 lead. Dasha managed to take the control and won the tenth game without giving Muguruza any chances to finish the match. Then the players won one game each and the winner of the set was to be decided at the tie-break.

The thirteenth game was really dramatic as Dasha managed to equalize the score being 0-3 down. The Spaniard had three match-points during the tie-break but failed to win any of them whereas Dasha won the second set on her third set-point. The decisive set was totally controlled by Dasha who lost only a single game and won four games in a row after the 2-1 score.

This is Dasha’s third final at Premier tournaments. Last year she won her maiden title in Charleston (on clay) and lost the final of the Kremlin Cup in Moscow (indoor hard).
